We purchased Thornhill farm in the Magaliesburg area in 1994 and in the same
year we purchased our first horse Annome a Thoroughbred, who is still with us.
Since them we have purchased a number of other horses which have since
changed hands again.
We were searching for a horse which was good on out rides as well as
comfortable to ride, then in 2003 we bought Apple Pie, our first Quarter Horse.
The more we looked into this breed the more we liked it, so much so that we
decided to breed with them. We bought 3 more mares in 2004, 2 from Namibia
and 1 from Vryburg. After searching for a suitable stallion, and discussion with
our friend Norbert, we made the decision to bring a new bloodline to South
Africa. It took Wolgang 6 months to find a 2 year old stallion in Germany, by the
name of Peppy Power Boy, from the breeders Conny and Willi Stadelmaier.
This was an illustrious bloodline (click ==> bloodline <== to see) which was
not yet in South Africa.
We purchased him and made arrangements to import him. First he had to be
quarantined in Germany, then after a long flight from Amsterdam he was again
quarantined at the Johannesburg International Airport for a further 5 weeks.
Our groom Daniel stayed with Peppy and took care of him during this period.
On 29 September he finally arrived at our farm, and so the Thornhill Stud was formed.
